Inspection Standard of Wooden Furniture

I. General Inspection Method of Wooden Product

1.The control inspection is conducted for samples signed by the customer or for the clear picture and product’s user manual provided by the customer in case of no sample.

2.Inspection quantity: the full inspection is adopted for 50PCS and below of order while sampling inspection is adopted for others according to AQL standard.

3.Inspection environment: the ambient brightness shall be 600-1000LUX and the light source shall be higher than the inspector’s head; the reflect light shall be avoided in surroundings; the distance from eyes to inspected objects shall be kept as 40cm and the angle with the inspected objects shall be kept as 45°.

II. Inspection Standard and Requirement of Wooden Furniture

1.Appearance Inspection

-The front surface shall be flat and free of sags and crests, spikey burrs etc.

-Other side faces shall be flat with uniform color, free of the color difference with the front surface, impurities, bubble prints or others.

-The color difference of products from the same model shall be not over 5%, free or exposed base, peeling, bubble, falling, blotch, orange peel, spots, bubble print, impurities and other defects.

-It shall be free of bumping or other defects, and the transmitting angle shall be smooth with the uniform thickness and free of deformation.

-The pit (-3mm) shall not be over 3 nos., and not clustered within the area of 10cm2 while convex point is not allowed.

2.Product Size, Thickness and Weight Test

The size, thickness, weight of single product as well as size and gross weight are measured or controlled according to product’s specification or template provided by customer. If customer does not provide the detailed tolerance requirement, +/-3% tolerance shall be used.

3.Static Load Test

The static load test is needed by many of furniture before delivering, such as desk, chair, deck chair, shelf etc.

Test Method: load a certain weigh onto the bearing part of the tested product, such as back face of chair, backrest, hand rail etc., and the product shall not turn over or crack, deform and others. After testing, the function shall not be affected.

4.Stability Test

The bearing part of wooden furniture shall be conducted with stability test when inspecting, such as chair seat, backrest and back cushion of sofa.

Test Method: apply a certain force to pull the product and observe whether it turns over or not. (Different products are different in object weight, pulling distance and force.)

5.Shaking Test

After completing the sample assembly, place it onto the flat plate horizontally and the base is not allowed for swinging.

6.Odor Test

The finished product shall be free of bad or irritating odor.

7.Barcode Scanning Test

The product label and the label on the external package can be scanned by the barcode scanner with the correct results.

8.Impact Test

Apply the load in a certain weight and size onto the bearing face of furniture from the specific height in a motion of a free falling body. After the end of test, the base is not allowed for crack or deformation, and not affecting the function.

9.Moisture Test

The standard moisture testing instrument is used to test the moisture of wooden part.

Test Method: insert the moisture testing instrument for approximately 6mm alongside the texture (except the non-contact equipment, the testing instrument shall get close to the surface to be tested), and then read the results.

Moisture requirement for wooden material: when the moisture rate of wooden material is changed significantly, the unevenly internal stress will generate inside the wooden material and the appearance of wooden material will deform, warp, crack or even other serious defects occurs. In general, the moisture rate of solid wood in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces is controlled according to the following standards: the base section of solid wood is controlled within 6~8; machining section and assembling section are controlled within 8~10; the moisture rate of tri-ply wood is controlled within 6~12; the moisture rate of multiply plywood, shaving board and medium density fiberboard (MDF) is controlled within 6~10 while that of general product is controlled below 12.

10.Transport Drop Test (Not For Fragile Products)

The drop test is executed according to the ISTA 1A standard and the principle of “one point, three sides and six faces”. Drop the product from a certain height for 10 times, and the product and package shall be free of fatal and serious problems. The test is mainly used to simulate the free drop may occur to product during the moving process to assess the product’s capacity of resistance to unexpected impact.
